Is there a new style to marketing?.  Certainly there are new means to find and communicate with those who might use or be interested in your product or service.  Obviously a lot of this is happening offline.  An email promoting an online marketing system said there was.  What I liked most was the recap in a few points of what we need to achieve in the process of marketing, or more simply stated, make the sale.  We have to understand why people might make a decision.  It’s starts with pain, problems or needs on their behalf, real or perceived, and we must show how we can provide a solution to that problem.

Try to spot these things as you look at other successful marketers or companies, both online and offline.  Note this list was developed for an online campaign in a Web 2.0 world of social networking.  Much of it applies to offline marketing or an online/offline mix as well.

""One of my clients came to me with a product
   he was already selling, looking for a way to
   boost sales.  After a few conversations, one of
   the pieces he was missing from his business was
   building a list of email subscribers he could
   follow up with. I helped him clearly see how by
   building a list he followed up with, he can
   do a better job pre selling his prospects
   (especially since it has a high priced product.) 
   I started going over how to build a squeeze page
   to get people to subscribe to his list, how to
   drive traffic to his page and how to create
   content for the email sequence and the free
   report he’d give away to the people who subscribe.
   After telling him about the report and email
   messages, he froze in his tracks because of
   one of the most common concerns I get,
   "I don’t write much… what do I say?" 
   I showed him a few techniques on how to get
   the creative juices flowing but it all started
   with learning what makes your market tick. 
   I showed him how to discover the current
   conversations in his field by researching his
   keywords on blog search engines like Technorati.com
   He had to find the top 3-5 questions, comments,
   concerns that were out there regarding his product. 
   Boy did he find them!  When we spoke the next
   time he was excited just to know that
   information but I let him in on a secret. 
   Write a reply to each of those 5 concerns. 
   And he did.  Next I told him that he just
   created his email sequence!  We tweaked it a
   bit but it was done! 
   Now it was time to do the report, and again he
   got worried about what to write.  I asked him
   about those 5 objections he found, the emails
   he wrote, and told him to string the emails
   together into one document.  Voila, he has a
   report!  He added a bit more content to the
   report to round it out (by now he was loving
   the writing part), added a few pictures and
   links to his sales letter (which wasn’t done
   at this point).
   Now the sales letter to get people to subscribe
   with their name and email address.  Well he
   already had a report that flowed well so he
   used it as a basis point for the sales letter.
   After tweaking it to add elements that is taught
   in Step 4 of the Nitro Blueprint System, he was
   good to go! 
   He went from not wanting to write anything and
   being "stuck", to discovering what his market
   really wanted, to creating an email sequence,
   to creating a report, and eventually the sales
   letter all from the same core information! 
   To this day he can’t believe that he was able
   to do it but like all action takers, he did!"

This is stolen from a sales letter by internet marketer Tahir Shah (no affiliate link) to show how he mentions NLP, and it’s importance to being successful.  I’ve somewhat familiar with what it, and was actually trying to explain it to my daughters the other day in reference to how people interact. This read today  reminded me I’ve been meaning to become an expert at NLP and related matters.  It also reminded me to focus on key individuals and companies, one or two, perhaps three only I feel, and follow their successful behaviours, while adding what I know about what works to their methods.  This will create a truly powerful approach that we can buy into as well because there is a part of us (with our big egos often) in it, which is what we need and why we are entrepreneurs.

When I first started trying to make money on the Internet, I knew nothing about Internet Marketing. I mean NOTHING. I had never even heard of an autoresponder and I didn’t know a single thing about earning an online income.

Selling items, unwanted or otherwise, from your hobby collections, will be a key part of the plan.

If you don’t collect anything right now, take a few minutes and reflect on the stuff that you might spend a few extra minutes looking at while listing and preparing them for sale. For me, it’s books, cds, cassettes, movies etc.

Obtaining items to sell can be done offline in your local community and online.

Selling will be primarily online through Ebay, other auction sites and large or local classified ad sites, although attending flea markets and holding regular street sales is another option as much as you choose.

To make your income completely portable you need to set it up so that whenever you choose to go into this mode of operation, you don’t have to be responsible for physical shipping.

We’ll leave for another time to ponder the critical question of how can we automate this as much as possible?
