Where to find great high energy shows at value?

I was looking for a set list site for research and I discovered this great questions and lots and lots of opinions.  Finding concerts and events that don’t require a second mortgage, brings the greatest satisfaction for me.

I’m kicking myself for missing Robert Randolph at the Folk Festival here in Winnipeg.  Michael Franti certainly makes the high energy, “get the crowd buzzing and dancing” list though and I did see him.  I’ll put in a plug for Eden Brent, a Mississippi based hard pounding piano playing blues singer with a great gravelly, growly voice that is meant for the blues, I saw at the Beausejour Folk Festival.  Not your traditional “high energy” band performance, but in the audience you just feel she is putting it all out there.  That’s all we ever ask from our performers.  More will come to mind.  Most jam bands know the formula too, but in most cases the energy is in the music, and not necessarily their visual actions or activity.

Here’s the link to high energy, great value concerts thread

Lets’s start our own list here using the comments.

Watching for upcoming concerts locally

How do you do it?  Of course newspapers, radio, posters, etc. work, but what about when you just have to have everything in front of you.   Here a link to Pollstar for concerts and shows in Winnipeg that I use.    Share what you do to keep in touch, but please keep the spam to a minimum.

As close to a can’t miss as there is for me, just for the memories of past events and performers.

Lineups for the Walker Moondance Jam July 9th to 12th

Unfortunately there is a conflict with the Winnipeg Folk Festival, but I’m working on ways to attend. Walker, Minnesota, about a three hour drive from where I am.  Wednesday and Thursday look particularly interesting.

Lineups To Date For 10KLF at Detroit Lakes

Link to10klf site as below:   We attended in 2007 to see Little Feat and were hoping for someone or group on our can’t miss list for this year.

Great Woods Festival, August 7-10

Looks interesting with some classic blues and rock performers.  Festival groups here for the Beausejour, MB, Great Woods annual event.

Want to make it here this year, especially for Savoy Brown and Canned Heat and others. A good eclectic mix always, I’m told.

Dauphin Countryfest June 26-29

A great page of pics of the 2008 Dauphin Countryfest performers here.  Even a couple of classic rockers.  As I was weaned on rock-country or country rock (Gram Parson, Flying Burritos, The Byrds, Eagles, and lots similar), the hybrid variety, I’ve always wanted to see if I can get a flavor of that here.  Maybe this year I can snag a last minute ticket.  I have heard they are sold out of 4 day passes.  Of course that happened within days, as it usually does, I hear.
