Apple announced quarterly iPhone sales that surpassed those of BlackBerry maker Research in Motion by nearly a million and a half units or 25%: nearly 6.9 million iPhones versus 5.4 million BlackBerry units in the third calendar quarter of 2008. The BlackBerry Storm is the newest device brought to you by Research In Motion and it is a touch phone. How big is the BlackBerry Storm compared to my phone? Apple, Google, and now Research In Motion are launching new application stores that will allow users to get third party applications from them instead of their wireless carrier. SEATTLE — Apple (AAPL) said its profit jumped 26% in its fiscal fourth quarter as the newest iPhone 3G outsold the market-leading BlackBerry from Research in Motion.For the three months ended Sept. 27, Apple's profit climbed to $1.14 billion, or $1.26 a share, from $904 million, or $1.01 a share in the same period last year. Good news for BlackBerry users and developers! Research In Motion has just announced an applications store! Bad news for BlackBerry users and developers! It's not going to be available until March 2009.
